Employees Save Man from Near-Tragedy

August 15, 2008 | 01:06 p.m. CDT

Scott Neofotist, brakeman, Boone, Iowa, and Steven Sutton, locomotive engineer, Slater, Iowa, recently were traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to instruct Total Safety Culture. As Neofotist drove across Cedar Rapids' Edgewood Road Bridge, Sutton noticed a man collapsed on the bridge's walking path, several feet from 4-lane traffic. He appeared to be experiencing seizures.

Neofotist turned the vehicle around to shield the man from traffic. He then called 911 while Sutton assisted the man, protecting his head from hitting the concrete.

Eventually, the man stood, but another seizure ensued, almost sending him over the bridge. Neofotist grabbed his arm to save him from the fall.

The ambulance soon arrived, and EMTs took the man to the hospital.

Thanks to these two employees for interrupting what could have been a tragic event.
