UP Participates in Political Conventions
August 25, 2008 | 12:50 p.m. CDT
Continuing a tradition dating back to the 1800s, Union Pacific will participate in the Democratic and Republican conventions, celebrating the 2008 "Whistlestop" tour.
This week, UP's historic steam locomotive, No. 844, will be on display throughout the Democratic Convention in Denver, as well as two of the rail industry's most environmentally friendly locomotives. At the Republican Convention in St. Paul, Minn., a 30-car passenger train will be on hand accommodating representatives.
"We are historically tied to 7,200 communities across our system, with many of those community leaders being delegates to the conventions," said Bob Turner, senior vice president-Corporate Relations. "We look forward to bringing a symbol of living history to both conventions, sharing the railroad's history and heritage."
