UP Vital to California's Economy

Discussing the freight challenges confronting Southern California, Bob Turner, senior vice president-Corporate Relations, testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, Feb. 20.

"I know this Committee understands that freight rail is vital to the health of this region and our nation," Turner said. "We offer huge societal benefits that need to be maximized, and while we are currently dealing with the economic downturn, we have a great future."

Commenting on the railroad's relationship with Metralink; UP's investments in the Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., areas; rising projections for freight rail demand; environmental benefits; safety and public/private partnerships, Turner concluded his testimony noting that UP's endeavors make a difference.

KCS Acquires Mexico Intermodal Facility

Kansas City Southern announced March 8 that it acquired the Puerta Mexico intermodal facility at Toluca in the State of Mexico. Later this month, Kansas City Southern de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) will add direct train service from Lazaro Cardenas to Puerta Mexico, providing Mexico City import and export shippers with a service alternative. More...
