Director Named 'Outstanding Woman of the Year'

The League of Railway Industry Women (LIRW) recently awarded Lupe Valdez its 2009 "Outstanding Woman of the Year Award." Sponsored by Progressive Railroading, the award recognizes an individual's dedication, commitment and contribution to the railroad industry.

As a director of public affairs, Valdez works with local elected officials and community groups in Southern California. She also is actively involved with air quality issues relative to the South Coast Basin.

"I am honored to receive such an incredible award from the League of Railway Industry Women," said Valdez. "I am fortunate to have a great team of people that I work with, a supportive management team and a family that is behind me 100 percent."

Valdez is the first Latina to receive LIRW's outstanding woman award.
