Derailment Closes Nevada Main Line No. 1

A Union Pacific freight train traveling from Chicago to Oakland, Calif., derailed more than 40 cars, taking out main line No. 1 on Sunday at 11:45 p.m. near Valmy, Nev. There were no injuries and no hazardous materials were released.
Cause of the derailment is under investigation. Trains are being rerouted along main line No. 2, which was unaffected and runs parallel to main line No. 1. Repairs are under way and it is unknown when they will be completed.
Valmy is about 100 miles west of Elko, Nev., on the Elko Subdivision. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
