To Our Customers,

As we start a new month, I’m excited about the progress we’re making to deliver a solid service product to grow with you. Our team remains focused on driving improvements in safety, service and operational excellence – this builds a strong, consistent service product that our customers expect.

Since my last letter, the overall network continues to be fluid, but we know there is always room for improvement. We continue to address pockets on our network that are challenged. Our team is agile in implementing corrective action to deliver the seamless service you expect. And when it comes to resources, both our locomotives and train crews are in solid shape.

Here is a quick look at our key operating metrics for the first quarter, which all improved year-over-year.

  • Freight car velocity at 203 miles per day, 4% better than a year ago.
  • Intermodal Service Performance Index at 95%, up 14 points.
  • Manifest/Auto Service Performance Index at 87%, up 7 points.

As a reminder, we recently introduced a new measure, Service Performance Index, that compares the actual service provided with the best monthly network performance over the last three years. This historical benchmark is what the team is striving to outperform.

We recently added three new Focus Sites to our portfolio of large-scale development sites, perfectly suited to custom build your new warehouse or industrial facility. Most of the sites have utilities and roads in place and all the sites have available parcels.
